Eleanor and her new bud.

We received confirmation in March that Eleanor is enrolled in the preschool in our public school district for the 2011-2012 school year. Seriously, where did the time go. I'm very excited for her and I know that she is more than ready for this new experience. I, on the other hand, am easing into the whole thing. I just want her to be happy, excepted, and able to grow into the amazing kid I know she is going to be (and already is).

She adores her story hour time with Mom Mom at the library and participates fully, I am told. But preschool will allow her to develop friendships with other kids her own age. Eleanor's been around plenty of kids, but not many that fall into her age group. Last week, we spent some time with friends and their children. One of the little boys is just year older than Eleanor. They instantly gravitated toward one another and had so much fun.

It can be a bit scary to see things in your child's life change. Honestly, I know that change is way more my issue than it is hers (it's amazing that I'm not curled up in a ball in my room with all the changes I've made this past year. I hate change) and I just have to back away and allow her to discover and navigate these changes her own way.

I lost the wire that connects my camera to the computer, so I am unable to upload and post photos, which limits my blog posts since most of posts involve photos. So, please excuse the poor quality of the photo I am posting today. It is from my phone.

Today I hurriedly finished Eleanor's birthday dress during nap time. I wasn't planning on doing it today, but the mood struck me so it had to be done. I used Sandi Henderson's Analise Pattern.

In other news, Eleanor is now sleeping quite successfully in her toddler bed. I don't want to jinx it so I won't say anything else. Hopefully she'll be in her twin bed soon!

Wedding Season

Wedding season is quickly approaching. As of today, we have been invited to 6 weddings. I'll be kicking off the season by attending my friend's bachelorette party this weekend. I'm not a fan of the typical cheap & tacky veils (decorations, games, "straws", etc.) that girls wear when they go out for their party. So, I made this headband for my friend to wear as an alternative. I know that bachelorette parties are suppose to be wild and raunchy, but what's wrong with cute and classy?

This is my first attempt with fondant. I made this cake in the two hours I had after work before Joe arrived home. I bought the pre-made and colored fondant from Hobby Lobby and just used the ever trusty cake mix from a box. I do like how it looks, not too keen on the taste of the fondant, but great tasting wasn't really my goal since neither Joe nor I are huge cake eaters. I printed the Sox logo from my computer and cut it out, pressed the pieces onto the rolled fondant, and used a small Exacto to cut the frosting. I do wish the fondant tasted better to me, because it does have a striking affect.

This pattern is actually for an infant dress, but I think it makes a really cute toddler top. I used I Love This Cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby. It's nice and soft, but does seem to get a little fuzzy with wear, but it hangs well.

Yes, it has been awhile since I've posted anything and my sister has been on my back to get some new shots of the redhead posted. I just finished up a 12 week substitute position, that took up quite a bit of my time. That, combined with the uninspiring Chicago weather, has kept me from attending to my blog. But the weather has changed and I am home once again, so here we are.

Unfortunately, we did have to say goodbye to Cain. He had lost all mobility. The decision was difficult, because although he couldn't walk at all, his personality was still there and he never refused food or drink. But laying on his side is no way for a 125lb dog to live. Joe and I know he's running around right now and eating as much steak and kleenex as he can. (It was gross, but that dog did fancy the tissues. We would catch him pulling them out of the box!) We aren't sure if Eleanor really understands that he is gone. She hasn't developed much verbally, so she can't tell us if she misses him or if she's looking for him. However, when we were out for breakfast the other day I got out my camera to distract her while we waited and she looked at pictures of Cain and her. All of a sudden she started crying. I don't know for sure if it was because of the pictures, but I couldn't figure out what else could have brought on her tears. She has made up for the lack of dog around here though by deciding to torture the kitty full time.

Our buddy Cain isn't doing so well. He's been a part of our family since the spring of 2004 when he was just an 8 month old rolly polly pup. He looked more like a bear cub than a dog. His joints have never been good to him, but now he's more affected than he ever has been. It's going to be and has been a rough couple of days. We love you Cainers.

The pattern for the sweater is the Cecily Baby Cardigan by Alicia Paulson. I used Rowan Yarn Cashcotton DK in Clear. I loved this yarn and I don't know that they even make it anymore. I found it in the discount bin at Nina's in Chicago and haven't been able to find it on the Rowan Yarn website. It's very soft and the color is my favorite. I'm always drawn to soft blues.

This year, my sister Kate, Eleanor and I made a trip down to Ohio to surprise my Grandparents for Thanksgiving. We drove down and spent the first night at the Manchester Inn, the hotel that my grandfather use to manage. They were very surprised to see us and it was nice to be together. They don't get many opportunities to visit with their great granddaughter.

It's a Pirate's Life for Me

I finished Eleanor's Halloween costume this morning. Basically all I made was the vest. The rest is store bought. I found the skull and crossbones pajamas and black skirt at Walmart and the pink scarf is just a strip of Lycra. She has a pirate hat too, but she hasn't seemed to like the idea of wearing that. I didn't follow a pattern for the vest. I kind of just made it up as I went along. I traced the top of one of her summer dresses onto black corduroy to help me get the over all shape. The sleeves and bottom of the vest have metallic gold bias tape sewn to the edges and there is a lace collar. I also sewed two brass buttons to the front of the vest and snaps on the inside, so it is easy to take on and off.

I found an iron-on studded skull and crossbones for the back.

I also made two lace cuffs by cutting the left over lace from the collar to fit her wrists and hot gluing tiny snaps to each end.

Costume in action. Hopefully, I will get some better pictures on Saturday (when Sesame isn't on).

We'll I am back to work. Temporarily that is. I took a 4 week art substitute position at a junior high near our house. It has been nice to get back in the classroom (and get a paycheck). However, I forgot how germy junior high kids are and have been sick for the past two weeks. Hopefully, by this weekend I'll be healthy again and back to doing what I love while not working; playing with Elle, crocheting a bit (my project list is piling up), and attacking this blog a bit.

Baby Steps

Eleanor has finally made some progress in the walking department. Yes she's nearly 15 months old and still crawls like a mad woman, but this past weekend she kept testing her standing abilities and then yesterday she took a few steps. Whoo Hoo! This is something that Joe and I have been trying to get her interested in for months now, all the while she'd look at us like, "Hey guys, I'll do it when I do it, ALRIGHT?!"
I have her attempts on video and was going to post it, but of course my crazy Vista won't allow me to download from my Sony Handycam. (oh the headaches) So I'm waiting until I get a bit more video of her actually walking and then I'll put it together in a little movie clip.
It's the funniest thing to watch. I don't think she's that interested in walking. I think she'd much rather just start running. She carefully gets herself up off the floor by putting her hands on the floor and her rear in the air. Then she lifts the hands into the air with a big grin on the face, then...blast off! Well, like I said, she's only made it a few steps, but they were quick ones and we are lucky she hasn't gone head first into any furniture yet.

We did it. We closed on our new house August 5. Right now we are still in the process of painting, unpacking, and making it our own, but it seems to be coming along quite nicely. I realize that it's been a while since I've posted anything "crafty." Unfortunately, all of my supplies are sitting in our POD right now. That sounds so sci fi. No, Joe and I are not about to depart for space travel. We've packed up 90% of our home, using PODS (portable on demand storage). For the time being, it's all in storage. When it's time for us to move in, they'll transport the storage unit to our new home. At that point I'll be able to start crafting again (if I don't just go out and buy some replacement supplies in the mean time).

Here are some pics of my last two projects that I forgot to post. I found the most adorable patterns for infant shoes.

I'll have to make a pair a size bigger pretty soon since they just fit at the moment.

Also, I've been making a couple of headbands. Anything to keep all that hair out of the eyes. I like the way the crochet flower looks rather than those neon silk flowers I've seen in a few stores.

Elle has discovered the make-up. Well, I guess you could say she discovered it a while ago, but now she can actually get her hands on it. When she was much less mobile, she use to sit in the loft and watch me put my make-up on in the bathroom. She really did watch me. She would sit there with this serious look on her face as if she was trying to figure out what it was I was doing exactly, and then when I would glance over at her that big grin would spread across her face. Oh, Joe I don't think you have any idea what she's got in store. He said I can't even put nail polish on her until she is old enough to ask for it herself. I wonder what his rule will be about make-up. Oh, she'll totally sneak it in her purse and put it on in the bathroom at junior high, Vanessa Huxtable style.

Are We Really Doing This...Again?

There is probably nothing more agonizingly painful than going through the process of purchasing a home. Sure, you catch that real estate high when you first start looking online. Then you walk through the homes for sale with your realtor, planning where all the furniture will go, and how you would paint the rooms this color or that. I love that part. That part is fun. You're still in fantasy land picturing your lovely little family living in your lovely new home. "Oh yes, let's take it! We'll make an offer." It all comes crashing down when someone tries to mess with your la-di-da plan by starting a bidding war, finding the ghosts that haunt the walls of the house in the form of duct tape covered pipes, or eeek mouse droppings here and there. Ugh...this isn't so fun anymore. Can I get a shot of whatever made me swoon over the prospect of owning a home in the first place?

We are currently on chapter two of, "The Joy of Real Estate." We made it through, Chapter 1: The First Time Buyer, and are now in the midst of Chapter 2: Purchasing Your Second House. We skipped the part about listing our current home (which I'm sure is a real treat) and decided to rent it out instead. Fortunately, we found a renter yesterday. (Yeah! phew)

Four years ago I signed about a bazillion dotted lines to own our current townhouse, that has served us well. When we were looking for this home we needed something with a backyard for our 130lb beast and well, enough living space to throw a decent party.

What do you know, baby girl comes along and our perspective changes. Location has become an issue. Joe goes to work by train everyday now, and has been driving into Naperville (at ungodly hours sometimes) to catch it. Also, growing up in Naperville, our entire social and family life is still there. Not that it's a far drive, but wouldn't it be more convenient to just live there? And schools...nuff said.

So, Naperville here we come. That's all I'm really saying at this point, because I'm sure the real estate gods are watching me right now, and without things finalized quite yet they could strike at any moment. Hopefully, soon we will be on Chapter 3: Enjoying Your Home and Not Moving Again for a Very Long Long Time.

Here is another video of our little star. I used pictures and video from 6 months on. I can't believe she is almost 1. I think this was the fastest year of my life, but maybe it just feels that way because I did so much waiting and thinking and thinking and waiting before she arrived (about 9 months worth). Once she was here, there wasn't much time for thinking anymore. In fact, I'm not sure if I've had a complete thought since. As a matter of fact,...wait...what was I saying? Oh, forget it.

Spring Break is Really Over

And now they are talking of snow in Chicago (with a very quick warm up this weekend). What is it with this weather? We had sunny skies and warm days in Florida, and we were sad to leave Friday.

Last week was a bit crazy. Oh my gosh, wait...it wasn't last week, it was two weeks ago. Wow, that should tell you how life has been for me lately. Thursday, April 9, was Joe's birthday. We went to his mom's house for a dinner of corn beef and potatoes (his favorite). Friday, we had our friends over to celebrate and didn't end up going to bed until 3:30am. We played round after round of Taboo. It wasn't until we started repeating the cards that we decided to call it quits and hit the sack. Then, Saturday night we went with Kate and Zac to see Rent at the Oriental Theatre (a present from Joe to me for Christmas). It was amazing and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see two of the original cast members perform. We left the house at 4:00am Sunday morning (Easter) so that Elle and I could catch our 6:00am flight to Florida. Whew, we made it.

I was a little nervous, being alone with Elle on the plane. You just never know how an infant is going to react, but she was wonderful. Actually, she didn't know she was alone with me on the flight. She thought we were traveling with about 180 of our closest friends. She entertained herself by smiling and flirting with all the other passengers, who breathed sighs of relief when there wasn't a screaming infant on the plane with them.

We had a great time visiting with my grandparents and soaking up some sun.

Easter is Approaching

Eleanor received a chocolate egg in the mail today from her Aunt Julie. She did get a little taste of the sugar decoration, but I don't think she'll be chowing down the whole egg, although she looks like she's ready to in this picture. Easter Sunday, Elle and I will be on a plane at 6am making our way to sunny Florida. Yeah, warmth! I'm hoping the plane will be pretty empty and we won't bother anyone if she gets a little cranky. Below is the bunny that I crocheted for her Easter Basket this year. She'll have a few more surprises like The Golden Egg, one of my favorites as a kid.

Birthday Celebrations

At the end of March, we celebrated Joe's grandmother's birthday. We drove to his Aunt Mary's place in the city to see family members, many of which we haven't seen since Christmas. Of course it was snowing by the time we left. Joe's poor sister Michelle and niece Alex were traveling from Arizona and got stuck in Kansas City, never making it to Chicago. We are all ready for a real spring around here.

My sister Kate's birthday was April 3 and a group of 8 of us celebrated by donning yellow crowns, eating with our fingers, and cheering on knights at Medieval Times. It was a blast. Even Joe had fun despite harboring negative feelings about the place for the last 16 years, because the year we were suppose to take a field trip there they went bankrupt and apparently stole his $15. Oh Joe, we love you. The place is really a trip. When you first walk in you enter this "grand hall" type room that has two bars, a dance floor, a sword stand, and tons of overpriced, low quality merchandise. (Zac, I saw you eyeing those swords.) Then, we entered the "arena" and watched the battles ensue. As Jessica put it, "It was a magical night." Oh Jessica, we love you.

Flashback Friday-Spring Break 1999

This year Elle and I are traveling down to Florida for Spring Break. We will visit with my Grandparents, frequent the club for lunch, and see the beach for the first time in Eleanor's life. 10 years ago I went to Florida for Spring Break. The experience was a bit different than it will be this time around. Senior year, Meg and I flew down to Pompano Beach with 3 other girls and stayed at one of their parent's condo. A few days later Joe and two of his friends drove down to meet us not sure where they would end up staying. After their lovely hotel room at the Egret Inn flooded, they crashed with us. Oh the drama. So much happened on that trip. Details and events that I will not go into. But when all was said and done, we had a blast and will forever remember being 18, on our own, partying it up Spring Break style on the beach.

Everyone tells you that the "new baby" stage goes by so fast. I never doubted that, but when it's through you can't believe it has passed. I studied every gassy smile, finger wrinkle, and fine hair on her head. I told myself I would never forget those moments when she was just about to fall asleep and looked up at me with wide eyes, laid her head on my shoulder, and took deep, restful breathes, and I sang "Under the Bridge," by the Red Hot Chili Peppers because I didn't know any lullabies yet. Sure, she still has creases in her fingers and rests her head on my shoulder, but it's different now. When they are brand new, their body is a part of yours and just folds up inside you. I didn't realize so much time had passed, until I worked on these two videos today. She's not that little squishy, wrinkly baby anymore. I love that she can play "patty-cake" with me now, giggle when the dog sneezes, and call for me if I leave the room, but for some reason, I can't stop watching these videos today.

I've been working on a few crochet projects lately. The green flower above has been steadily growing, mainly while I drink my coffee, watching the Today show. I plan on stitching it to a circle pillow for Elle's bedroom. I like the idea of these fluffy crochet flowers adorning little pillows and will probably make a few more for her room.

I also finished up this hat for Elle. I found the pattern online here. We still need hats in the springtime, living in Chicago. I made the flower larger than suggested in the pattern, and used a tan, nylon tape.Ew, I hate pictures of myself. Anyway, I've had two balls of this green, wool/nylon yarn laying around for almost 4 years now. I finally decided to make myself a hat with them. I crocheted a simple single stitch, concentric hat, and then added a small brim to the front. I'm not sure if I'm extremely happy with how the brim came out. I'll have to try a different approach next time.

9 Months Today

Today I'm 9 months old. There are a lot of things that I can do now that I couldn't do 9 months ago. I can sit up all on my own, but I'm not interested in standing yet. I can sort of hold my bottle, eat Cheerios by the handful, munch on pieces of apples, bananas, and pears, army crawl across the floor to get whatever I want, and wear my hair in pig-tails. But what I really love to do is roll, roll, roll around the room, kick my legs so I rotate like a clock, splash in the bathtub, sing along with the radio in the car, smile and giggle when Mommy picks me up, and give Daddy a enthusiastic welcome when he walks in the door. Boy, these 9 months have been pretty great.

I've started a bit of "Spring Cleaning" around here. It doesn't feel quite like spring yet, but I'm ready to get re-organized. Before the baby was born, everything had a place and was in it's place. God I miss nesting. I could tackle 5 loads of laundry, paint a bathroom, and make dinner all at once when I was 6 months pregnant. Now, it's not so easy or desirable.

However, I have started in Eleanor's closet. This is the second time I have packed up her clothes that no longer fit. Surprisingly, it's very emotional. I look at the 3-6 month clothes and remember her wearing them, who gave them to her, or picking them out at the store. I feel like I'm packing up memories. But, I haven't rifled through the 0-3 month box of clothes yet, so I know this emotional attachment shall pass as well.

It's amazing. I packed up so many clothes, yet she still has a closet full.

My grandmother recently sent Eleanor this read-headed doll. It use to be my aunt's and has seen a lot of love. I decided to try and clean her up a bit, so I went on-line to do some vintage doll research. Sorry, Galeese Girls, your toys are vintage. Heck, my toys are considered vintage. I found plenty of info on Rainbow Brite and My Little Pony.

I found markings on the back of her neck that indicate she is a Horsman doll, model #22, but I couldn't find a picture of the original doll. There is a picture on the Horsman website that could very well be her, but it doesn't mention which doll it actually is.
As you can see, her hair was a matted mess. I want to try to smooth it out, but was afraid it was too brittle and would break. I found a lot of information about fixing doll hair and thought I would give it a try.
The first thing I did was clean the whole body with diluted Dawn dish soap and a soft washcloth. Then, I used the diluted soap in the hair, careful not to get water and soap in the eyes, and rinsed the hair clean. Many websites recommended soaking the hair in fabric softener to make it more manageable.

I soaked her hair for about an hour, squeezed out the excess fabric softener into the sink, and the got to combing through her hair. It was still in clumps, so I used Elle's plastic baby comb and started at the ends, working my way up to the scalp. It took awhile, but I was able to comb through the hair smoothly when I was finished. I then rinsed out the fabric softener and laid her on her back to dry. (I didn't want the water to drip down into her body, because there are metal parts inside)

At this point she looked like Chucky, with her hair sticking straight out. I knew that I needed to smooth her locks somehow and thought that it would be best to try the doll "boil perm" I had read about on quite a few sites. They recommend using drinking straws to roll the doll's hair into curls, but I decided to use foam rollers.

The rollers were actually too long, so I took the foam part off, folded it in half, and rolled the hair around it. To secure it, I put a pin through it. Now she was looking like the character from Hellraiser. Do you see a theme here?

After boiling water in a medium sized pot, I removed the water from the heat a dipped only the rolled hair into the water for about 30 seconds. I rinsed the hair in cold water and left her to dry for a good 24 hours.

When her hair was dry, I carefully unrolled each curl, then used the comb again to fluff the hair.

I'm quite happy with the results. She doesn't look brand new, but she looks a lot better than she did a few days ago. Now we just need to get some clothes on this doll.

My very good college friends welcomed their first little one, Remi Elizabeth, to the world on February 10 (Marley is their dog). She weighed 4lbs 8oz and was able to come home last Friday. Sasha was my roommate for about 3 years at Mizzou. Our other roommate, Lacey, and her husband just had their little girl, Beau Jean in December. Maybe they'll all grow up, go to Mizzou, and end up at the house on Bouchelle. To our future tigers.

Cutie Booties

I finished crocheting the baby booties that I mentioned the other day. I love them. They look so cute on her little chubby feet. (The pictures are a little blurry, because she doesn't keep those feet still for long.) I used a pattern by Kelly McCaleb, but altered it a bit. I followed the pattern the first time around, but I wasn't pleased with my outcome. It turned out big and bulky, and didn't really look like the example picture. I'm not sure where I went wrong. I may have used a heavier weight of yarn than I was suppose too. So, on my second try, I used the same weight of yarn as I did before, but used a smaller hook (the pattern calls for a G hook, but I used an F instead) and used a single stitch on the last row instead of a half-double stitch. Also, I'm not sure how a baby would keep these little slippers on her feet, so I added the suggested tie. They work up pretty fast and just look so darn cute. I'm stopping myself from crocheting all day and making a pair in every color. Is she really going to grow out of all these cute little baby things one day?

More Teeth, Less Sleep

The top teeth have popped through. The first couple of nights she was up every 3-4 hours, so we tried some Tylenol. She's sleeping better now, but lately she's been waking up around 3 or 4 in the morning (way too early to start my day). Usually, after a bottle she will go back to sleep, but there have been just a couple of mornings where she refuses. At that point I put on some t.v. show until the eye rubs start and I put her back to bed. I know, the t.v. is not a parenting tool, but my brain doesn't work that early, and the remote does. Remote wins.

A Few Crochet Projects

Yes, yes, yes! It is beautiful outside. Elle and I even took a walk today. She needed some fresh air after being cooped up this winter and covered in layers and layers every time we left the house. This kind of weather change rejuvenates and motivates me to get moving. It's funny how during those cold and dreary winter months you have to motivate yourself to do even the simplest tasks. Now, I know this weather is too good to be true for February in Chicago, so I am going to take advantage of it while I can.
Lately, I have been working on a couple of crochet projects. I'm a book taught crocheter so I'm kind of figuring out the patterns as I go. The first item I finished is a dress/top for Elle.

I say dress/top, because I actually started this when I was still pregnant, and if I remember correctly, I used the pattern for a 3-6 month baby and I'm not sure if it will fit her now as a dress or as a top with leggings or pants underneath. Anyways, I dug it out of my yarn box and finished it up. I got the pattern from a book that has many adorable baby items. I decided to try some other projects from the book, but I kept getting frustrated with the pattern directions. I assumed that I was just wasn't familiar with the techniques and went online to see if anyone had advice for creating the projects in this particular book. To my surprise I came across review after review stating that many of the patterns were incorrect and that the book seemed to be edited poorly. Well, at least I know now that it wasn't just me, but I wish I didn't waste my money on this book. You can even see that the left strap on the dress I made is thinner than the right even though I checked and double checked the pattern. Next time I try to find a pattern book I will make sure to read a few reviews first.

The next project I've been working on is a blanket using the crochet block patterns in this book, 200 Crochet Blocks, by Jan Eaton. I really like the examples and colors she shows in the book. They really inspire you to try them out. I did check up on this book and found a list of corrections here. I haven't checked my copy to see if they have been revised, but now I know where to go if they haven't, and I don't feel like I wasted my money.
Today I started my third endeavor, a pair of baby booties. I purchased a pattern from Kelly McCaleb's Etsy store. I've seen a lot of patterns out there for booties, however these booties seemed unique and more like little ballet slippers than booties. (Wow, I just said booties one too many times). I'll let you know how they turn out.

You can't help but fall in love with this kid. I remember loving Sesame. Elle doesn't really pay attention to the t.v. unless Sesame Street or Wheel of Fortune is on. Maybe she has a thing for letters?

So Grandma Betsy is insisting that we enter the Beautiful Baby Search on Live with Regis and Kelly. Not that she had to twist my arm too hard. I obviously love taking pictures of the little sweetie. If you have a babe between the ages of 6 months and 48 months, I suggest entering a pic. What have we got to loose? The winner gets $125,000 towards a college scholarship. Sounds good to me. Yesterday, while Joe and I were watching a movie, I made a few more hair bows. Some of the ribbon I recently purchased to try to make the bows, while some of it was from past projects. Pretty soon Elle will have one for every out-fit. They are actually fun to make. I love seeing the finished outcome. I know, I'm such a dork. I'm going to have to try something a little fancier than the basic bow.

Two New Jumpers Coming Soon...I Hope

I bought a pattern last week so I can make a couple of jumpers for Eleanor. The pattern is really toddler size, but I thought I'd make the smallest size with a few adjustments. This kid grows so fast. She already fits into a 12 month size right now, with a bit of room to spare (She's 7 months old). Yesterday,I found two colors of corduroy on sale for $2 a yard and then bought some patterned fabric for the lining. They aren't the most exciting colors, but I thought I'd snazz up the jumpers with colorful leggings or tights when she wears them.

Elle has moved on to a stage in life where she no longer falls asleep in my arms. It's actually a good thing, because she has become a great sleeper in her crib, and only her crib really. But that means I don't get to watch her sleep anymore, which is just so precious. Heaven forbid I walk into her room while she's sleeping. You don't want to disturb those peaceful moments. However, on Tuesday morning, after she had slept a good 2 and a half hours, I couldn't help but tip-toe inside and take a peek at her. So sweet.

I Finally Figured Out What to Use it For

After buying a $5 bow for my infant and looking at it thinking, "Hey, I could do this," I was on a bow making frenzy all weekend. I purchased a few supplies at JoAnn's and Sally Beauty Supply and with the help of my trusty glue gun, that has been with me since high school, I made quite a few hair bows that weren't too bad. I even added a non-slip grip to keep them in the hair. I was pretty proud of myself. I think Joe was pretty impressed too. He had to compare my bow with the purchased one first before he could really be satisfied with my results, of course.
Anyways, I was cleaning up my bow mess this morning, debating where to store my ribbon supply when I spotted the gift my friend Karen gave me for my birthday 2 years ago. It's a tree like structure from IKEA that has been sitting on my bookshelf looking a little lonely. I just didn't know what to do with it until now. It's a perfect spot to hang my spools of ribbon, at least for now.

Animals at the Zoo

Elle loves playing with the Zoo that her Godfather, Rich gave her for Christmas. The animals spin around and it plays music when any of the red buttons are pushed. She quickly figured this out and now keeps one hand above one of the red buttons and moves her fingers up and down when the music stops to get it going again. I have found myself humming these lovely tunes throughout the day. Oh well, it keeps her busy and we love any toy that does that.

We had a little accident during dinner tonight. While I was moving the spoon toward Elle's mouth she tried to rub her eyes. As a result, carrots all over the face. She's a pretty good eater these days. She seems pretty willing to eat anything, so far. We'll see how it goes once we try to introduce those lovely pureed peas and turkey dinners. Yuck.

When I saw Eleanor's chubby cheeks and little grin in this picture, I couldn't help but think that she looked like a Cabbage Patch Kid. Actually, her mouth is closed like that because she has been grinding her gums together to help sooth the new teeth that are coming in. As you may have noticed, I somewhat calmed the mane of hair with a little pony tail on top of her head.

Come Christmas Day, Elle may have a Cabbage Patch Kid of her own. I spoke with Santa and he said that since it is the 25th Anniversary of the Cabbage Patch Dolls he might bring Elle one since her mommy had one when they first came out (thanks to Aunt Janet).

I'm not quite sure what to do with this child's hair. She woke up from her nap yesterday and looked like this. It just keeps getting longer and fluffier. The bows aren't cutting it anymore, because they just don't hold enough. I've started to use tiny rubber bands, but since she can't sit up on her own quite yet I feel like I'm wrestling with her to get them in. I guess we'll just have to wait out this crazy hair period until we get to the pig-tail stage and then eventually the braid stage. I knew having a girl was going to be complicated. If she were a boy I would probably go straight to the mohawk stage. Oh, grandma would love that!
